Ok so it's been roughly 2 weeks at my new job. And needless to say, I absolutely love it! Great staff, nothing but POSITIVITY, and it involves MINIMAL critical thinking (thumbs up). But to the nitty gritty...I don't want to give to much away (even though I kind of did with my last post), but I work for a promotional/marketing company. Basically I walk around trying to get people to sign up for FREE stuff. Yes, I get paid if someone signs up for something FREE. So ultimately, everyone is happy. You don't spend any money, you are just awared (is that a word?) of something completely FREE with no obligation [to buy] for anything. And I get paid since I did my job of promoting and marketing. WELL, this consists me of actually GREETING potential customers and being courteous. And I really don't find being nice to someone hard. It's actually a sincerely and genuinely easy thing for me to do. Cause real talk, I'd want someone to be nice to me too. I walk around smiling at others, greeting people, and even asking, "How are you?", and sometimes I usually do this without asking them to sign up for anything. But I've noticed along the way, people are fucked up. I say this cause in 2008, you can not walk up to someone 10 out of 10 times, say hello with a big smile on your face and expect the same thing back. No.... Here are some reactions I've acquired from the following statement/greeting, both positive and negative.
"Hello. How are you today?"
1. Who are you? [Angry face]
2. Vigorous shaking of the head.
3. Oh God! [Person storms off in opposite direction]
4. I really don't care what you're trying to say, so don't waste my time.
5. Hi.
6. [Ignore]
I talk to on average probably 80+ people a day and I generally hear 1.-4. 90% of the time. And I hate to say it, but on average I see more of a reflection of the population, so I see probably 90% white people. But still I see Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, and Other(s) too, and they are fucked up as well. All I got to say it, you (all) need to get your shit together, for real. Why is it so crazy that I smile at you and want to see how you're going? Will it kill you to be nice back? Do you know what being nice even is?
I think I'm going to have to do some research on what country is actually the "nicest" cause I sure don't want my children growing up in this country. Where they'll be looked at as unusual or weird because they will be friendly, happy, and smile at others.
